Content marketing is connecting with potential customers through value-added content. Content comes in many forms like blog articles, videos, apps etc and is used as a means to attract, engage and convert people into customers.

Unlike advertising, content marketing is not aggressively promotional. It is conversational, useful and provides consumers with the information they want without trying to sell to them.

Mint.com, a digital finance service, used content marketing to promote its new app to prospective customers.

Since their target spent a lot of time online, the company created MintLife, a personal finance blog, Content on the blog included how to guides on paying for college debt, saving for a house and interviews about managing your personal finance.

The popularity of the blog surged as did demand for the app. As a result Mint quickly grew and was acquired by Intuit for $170 million after only being in business for three years.
